Urban Souls Dance Company celebrates its 20th anniversary with “The Black Agenda,” a performance honoring the Black experience. The event features world premieres and tributes that reflect the community’s history and aspirations.

Performances:

Black Organization Night: The opening night will honor historic Black organizations and celebrate the Divine 9, highlighting their contributions to the community.

Eulogy for America’s Promise: A tribute by Harrison Guy to Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, blending various dance styles to reflect her legacy and significant moments in her life, accompanied by a rich soundscape of music and speeches.

The Black Agenda: Walter J. Hull, II’s piece will explore the historical significance of a Black Agenda, resonating with contemporary community sentiments post-2024 elections.

Sugar Shack: A vibrant return of Hull’s work inspired by Ernie Barnes’ art, celebrating Black music and community joy.

Shadow Work: Aniya Wingate’s exploration of hidden identities through intricate movement and emotive music.

D.N.A.: A tribute by guest artist YUNGCHRIS to Rev. Jack Yates and the legacy of Juneteenth in Houston.
